Andrew comes to spend Christmas Eve at the family home of his new fiancée, Meghan. Meghan, her parents, and her younger sister have traditions that stretch back to the days when the family was cash-poor. Despite his initial bewilderment, Andrew becomes part of these traditions.
Trimmed to Nothingness is a sweet domestic comedy that packs a lot of holiday spirit into a ten-minute running time. The play requires just a mug or teacup as a physical prop; all other props are imaginary. Costumes include winter jackets for all characters, but they are worn for only a short time. While the living room set can merely be suggested, the contrast between real and imaginary items might best be conveyed with a realistic set.
This play is also available in a four-character edition that omits the character of the younger sister.
