Musical selections are presented from a variety of produced, planned, and envisioned original musicals, along with numbers written as alternatives for existing musicals. Narration introduces each song, with some songs appearing in sequences as selections from a single musical. Most songs are excerpts rather than fully developed stage presentations.

Cast size and production values are up to the choice of the producer and director. Musicals I Have (and Haven't) Written can be done as a bare-bones production with a narrator and three singers or as an extravaganza with different casts, costumes, and settings for each referenced musical.
