Passing Lane

2w 30-45

Nancy has just been informed that her grandmother passed her driving test, a result she has dreaded. When she tells her friend Cara that Nana Lane has "passed," Cara assumes that the grandmother has died. Their conversation works at cross-purposes as Cara uses social media to spread the word and set up a fund to pay for the funeral, while Nancy believes that incoming condolence messages are jokes instigated by her husband. The situation becomes clear only when Nana Lane is indeed in danger of death, and a bit of an ominous twist ends the story.

This breezy ten-minute comedy is easily produced, with two cell phones as the only props needed and no specific setting required. Passing Lane gives two actresses an opportunity to portray a range of mismatched emotions that, unknown to them, provide the audience with lots of comedy.
