The Farmer and Fortune tells the Middle-Eastern folktale of a farmer who decides to stop working and striving for Fortune, and instead let Fortune come to him. Through the machinations of a larcenous neighbor and the assistance of the farmer's dim-witted son, that indeed comes to pass, much to the astonishment of his shrewish wife.

The Farmer and Fortune takes place in two settings (a cottage and a field), but with minimal set and mimed props. The oversized reactions and miming of the cast make the props come to life in the imagination of the audience.

This ten-minute comic play lends itself both to performance by adults and by children, although its moral of good things coming to the undeserving poor may not be a lesson parents would wish their children to take to heart!
