Renditions

3 either
2 either 25-35, 1 either any age

A songwriter has come to a copyright lawyer to see what recompense can be achieved in suing an artist whose rendition of the songwriter's first song is a big hit. The songwriter insists the artist is doing the song all wrong, even though she's singing all the correct words and notes. The lawyer explains that this is not copyright infringement, but helps the writer explore other possibilities for legal remedy. The lawyer finally dismisses the client, but only after getting hint of a lucrative suit the lawyer can pursue without the songwriter.

The cast is rounded out by a redactor, who interrupts whenever a name is about to be spoken aloud. This gives the flavor of a legal document to the ten-minute play.
