Moving On
1m, 1w, 2 non-speaking children
1m 30s; 1w 30s; 2 children of any ages
John and Amy have taken their two children to visit John's mother. What John hasn't told Amy is that his mother died months ago, and they are visiting a graveyard. Amy storms off with the younger child in tow as John reveals to the older child that he too is dying.
The setting is a park with bench, adjoining a fence and a portion of a cemetery, a city skyline in the background. Much of the setting and the props, and even the children, can be suggested rather than being physically present.
The structure of the play is primarily a long monologue for Amy, then a long monologue for John, reflecting the lack of effective communication between them. Moving On can be treated as an acting exercise for two talented people.
