Nun of the Above

2m, 3w, 1+ transgender female
2m 45-60; 1w 40-65, 2w 20-25; 1+ transgender 25-30

When drag performer Noreen goes in for full transition surgery, she needs someone to watch her dog. Who else but Mona Bunch, the fabulous drag queen at their club? When Noreen comes back with no place to stay, Mona takes her in. Noreen is not the best house guest, engaging in raucous phone sex all night long until one of her online clients introduces her to the Bible, and she decides to become a nun.

Although smitten with convent life after a couple of visits, Noreen is ultimately not a match, and when it comes out that she has stolen the identity and social security number of Mona's abducted niece, things become tense. The real niece is eventually located and reunited with Mona and her parents.

Two endings are provided, to be used at the discretion of the director: one unhappy, in which Noreen sadly returns to her phone sex work, and one happy, in which Noreen is reunited with her till-then missing dog.

The cast consists of drag performers, optionally including chorines who take on some of Mona's catty lines and perform short drag routines during scene changes, plus two nuns, the parents of Mona's abducted niece, and an offstage announcer at the drag club.

A number of sets are required – the drag club stage and backstage, Mona's living room, and multiple spaces within a convent. This suits the play particularly well to proscenium theaters with a curtain, in front of which drag performances can occur while set changes occur behind it.
