Four members of a family (father, mother, teenage son, and teenage daughter) are seated around the table in a boardroom, conducting a quarterly budget meeting. Cost overruns are associated with both the son and daughter that need to be resolved. The formal fiscal restraints the father attempts to impose ultimately result in a revolt and an abandonment of the quarterly meetings.
Hostile Takeover gets its comedy from the contrast between the father's business-speak and the family dynamics shared by any family with children. The play is simple to produce, with just a table, chairs, papers, and a cell phone needed, and provides four strong roles for comic actors.
