The Unexpected Guessed

2 either, 25-50

A broken-down vehicle has stranded a motorist near a house where a party is about to be held. Upon entry, the motorist is treated by the host as an early guest, and all inquiries about telephone access are misinterpreted. The motorist's cell phone has no service, then dies completely. As the motorist attempts to figure out a way to get a tow truck dispatched, it becomes apparent that the host is actually a robot whose factory settings make it believe the time is two hours later than it really is. As the "guest" attempts to get menu preparation back on track, the robot begins to glitch, believing that the motorist is delivering fresh, breathing meat to be butchered for dinner. The "guest" departs this earthly coil before a tow truck arrives.

This darkly humorous ten-minute play suits itself to any holiday occasion, by simple adjustment of party decorations. Props needed include a cell phone, an instruction booklet, and a plate of (uneaten) appetizers. An Alexa device may also be visible. Sound effects include the Alexa, a doorbell, and a variety of kitchen noises. Staging can be simple, with just indications of a kitchen door and a front door.
