Boys Will Be Boys
2w 20-45
Madelyn is surprised to meet Glenda out and about. She's heard that Glenda's son Billy just had a serious accident of some sort and went to the emergency room. When Glenda indicates that the emergency room visit was brief, Madelyn assumes that Billy is fine and launches into a discussion on child supervision and upbringing. Glenda retorts with common-sense wisdom and a defense of gun ownership. After they agree to disagree, it turns out that Billy is dead from an accidental shooting and Glenda is on powerful medication.
Boys Will Be Boys is easily staged, with no props or set pieces required. The discussions of child-rearing are something anyone can relate to, and the sudden turn at the end of this generally comic play can hit with a powerful wallop.
