Easier Dead Than Son

May Lou and Hank, parents of young triplet girls, suddenly find that May Lou is pregnant, and not through IVF this time. Concerned about genetic problems with infant boys in her backwoods Appalachian family, May Lou contemplates abortion, supported by her gay brother Joe Jay. But a new state law is about to take effect that will not allow determination of the sex of a fetus before the window for abortion closes. When an appointment for abortion is made to take place after the new statute becomes law, May Lou is hauled in for questioning. Legal woes ensue.

The small cast of five (May Lou, Hank, Joe Jay, and a gynecologist and his receptionist) is augmented by 13 recorded voices, most of which are heard as the action swirls around an individual in a suggested location. The living room of May Lou and Hank is the primary set, with a doctor's office and reception area also called for.

A nightmare scenario of possible impacts of restrictive abortion laws, Easier Dead Than Son humanizes both sides of the debate, leading to a sobering conclusion.
