We to the Manor Born conveys the memories of Jamie Fairchild, once assistant caretaker of the Pentworth estate in the English countryside. Jamie now cares for the aged Duchess of Pentworth in highly reduced circumstances. Memories of younger days, and of his wife Miranda, intermingle with the Duchess' memories to reveal secrets in the past of the Duchess.

The action takes place in a humble cottage on the Pentworth estate. The action is centered in the early twentieth century, but flashbacks occur to thirty-five years in the past, in the late nineteenth century. Three characters – Jamie, Miranda, and the Duchess – make up the cast.

The Duchess of Pentworth Plantation tells the same story as We to the Manor Born, transported to Pentworth Plantation in the American South in the years before and after the Civil War. The action takes place in a sharecropper's shack on the plantation, with the character of Jamie renamed to Willie.

Master Duke's Duchess tells the same story as The Duchess of Pentworth Plantation, but makes Willie a former slave rather than a white sharecropper.
