The Diarist

Brian's life is pretty dull. Suddenly, he begins having dreams of violent Viking/Irish battles. In them, he sees images of his ex-girlfriend, who still carries on instant message conversations with him almost nightly. He discusses the dreams with his work friend Jos and with Madame Prikognos, a psychic, who helps him determine that in a previous life he was Brian Boru, high king of Ireland in the early 11th century. How closely will his life mirror that of Brian Boru?

During Brian's sleep, the Diarist records the incidents of Brian's day. With time left over, he browses through the journals of Brian Boru's life, which filter into Brian's dreams. Brian's daily life and the Diarist's dream life finally merge at the end of the 30-minute running time in a unique take on reincarnation.

The Diarist requires four separate, minimal sets (the Diarist's desk, a bed and night table, a break room table and chairs, a psychic's office). Focused lighting needs to accompany the flow from one set to another. Sound design is important, being used to establish timelines between scenes.
